Welcome to Mendli (“Mendli”, “we”, “our”, “us”). A safe, anonymous space where people can talk about how they feel and support each other as peers.
These Terms of Use & Community Guidelines (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of the Mendli mobile application, website, and services (collectively, the “Services”).

By downloading, accessing, or using the Mendli mobile application (“App”), you agree to these Terms of Use and our Community Guidelines. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.


1. What Mendli Is

  • A peer-to-peer platform for anonymous emotional support chats (text and/or voice)
  • A place to listen, share feelings, and feel less alone

Mendli is not:

  • A crisis service intervention or emergency help
  • Therapy, counseling or medical advice
  • A substitute for professional help (psychologists, psychiatrists, counselors, hotlines)
  • A dating, flirting, or social networking app

If you are in crisis or believe you may harm yourself or others, stop using the App and contact emergency services or a crisis hotline right away.


2. Eligibility

By using Mendli, you confirm that you:

  • Are 18 years of age or older
  • Have legal capacity to enter into agreements
  • Have not been previously banned from Mendli
  • Will use the service only in compliance with these Terms and all applicable laws

3. Your Account and Responsibilities

You may create an account using a nickname or anonymous identifier.
You are responsible for:

  • Keeping your login credentials secure
  • All activity under your account
  • Notifying us if you believe your account has been compromised

We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms or create risk for others.


4. User Conduct Requirements

To maintain a safe and respectful environment, you agree not to:

4.1 Engage in harmful behaviour

Including:

  • Harassment, bullying, or hate speech
  • Threatening, abusive, or violent language
  • Intimidation or manipulation

4.2 Share sexual or adult content

Absolutely prohibited:

  • Sexual messages or suggestions
  • Flirting or romantic solicitation
  • Explicit material
  • Requests for photos or personal contact information

4.3 Provide restricted advice

You may not give:

  • Medical or mental‑health advice
  • Psychological assessments or diagnoses
  • Legal, financial, or professional advice

4.4 Promote dangerous behaviour

Including:

  • Self-harm
  • Substance abuse
  • Violence
  • Illegal acts

4.5 Attempt to move conversations off-platform

No requests for:

  • Social media handles
  • Phone numbers
  • Email addresses
  • In‑person meetings

4.6 Interfere with platform integrity

Examples:

  • Spamming
  • Creating multiple fake accounts
  • Using automated scripts or bots
  • Attempting to scrape, hack, or disrupt the service

Violation may result in suspension or permanent removal.


5. Peer Support, Not Professional Care

Mendli provides access to volunteer listeners, not licensed professionals.
You understand that:

  • Listeners are not trained therapists
  • Conversations are personal opinions, not expert advice
  • Mendli does not guarantee accuracy or reliability of user content
  • You are responsible for your own choices and well‑being

6. Community Guidelines — What is NOT allowed

To keep Mendli safe and supportive, the following behaviors are strictly prohibited:

  1. Threats, harm, or violence
    • Threatening to harm yourself or others
    • Encouraging self-harm, suicide, eating disorders, or dangerous behavior
    • Glorifying or sharing graphic content about violence/injury
  2. Harassment, abuse, hate
    • Insults, bullying, shaming, or degrading someone
    • Racist, sexist, homophobic, transphobic, ableist, or otherwise hateful language
    • Targeted harassment or repeated unwanted contact
  3. Sexual content or exploitation
    • Sexual advances, flirting, sexting, or asking for sexual content
    • Sharing or requesting nude/sexually explicit images or descriptions
    • Grooming behavior or soliciting minors (even if you believe the person is 16+)
  4. Impersonation or deception
    • Pretending to be a professional therapist, counselor, doctor, or crisis worker
    • Using multiple accounts to harass or manipulate
  5. Spam, advertising, solicitation
    • Promoting products, services, links, crypto, OnlyFans, etc.
    • Asking for money, gifts, or personal information
  6. Illegal activities
    • Sharing instructions for illegal acts
    • Distributing malware, phishing links, or harmful content
  7. Misuse of crisis features
    • Falsely claiming crisis to get priority matching
    • Misusing the “Transfer to crisis help” button

If you see any violation → use the Report button in the chat. We take every report seriously.


7. Your Content & License

When you send messages or feedback:

  • You keep ownership of what you say.
  • You grant Mendli a worldwide, royalty-free license to store, display, and use that content to operate, improve, and promote the App (including anonymized/aggregated research).
  • We do not claim ownership of your words.

8. Content You Share

You own the messages and content you send on Mendli.
However, by using the platform, you grant Mendli a limited, non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to:

  • Store your messages
  • Display them to the person you are matched with
  • Review content for safety or moderation
  • Use anonymized data to improve the service

We do not sell your content or use it for advertising.


9. Safety and Moderation

While we take safety seriously, we do not oversee all conversations in real time.

  • We use a combination of automated systems and human review to detect violations.
  • We may review chats if flagged by users, keywords, or safety systems.
  • Consequences may include: → Warning → Temporary mute / block from listening → Permanent ban from the App → Reporting to authorities if there is a credible threat of harm

Mendli may take action, including:

  • Reviewing reported content
  • Removing content that violates policies
  • Suspending or terminating accounts
  • Taking steps to address safety risks
  • Cooperating with legal authorities when required

Decisions are final. We are not required to explain every moderation action.


10. Privacy

Your privacy is extremely important to us.
Please review the Mendli Privacy Policy for details on how we collect, use, and protect your information.

By using Mendli, you also agree to our Privacy Policy.


11. Service Changes and Availability

Mendli may modify, update, suspend, or discontinue any part of the Services at any time without prior notice.

We are not responsible for:

  • Service interruptions
  • Data loss
  • Technical issues caused by third-party providers

12. Third‑Party Services

We may use third‑party providers for:

  • Hosting
  • Analytics
  • Messaging infrastructure
  • Moderation tools

These providers may access your information only as necessary to perform their functions and must comply with confidentiality obligations.


13. Disclaimers

To the maximum extent permitted by law:

  • The Services are provided “as is” and “as available.”
  • We do not make warranties regarding reliability, accuracy, or availability.
  • We do not control and are not responsible for user behaviour.

You use Mendli at your own risk.


14. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law:

  • Mendli is not liable for emotional distress, decisions you make, or outcomes of conversations.
  • Mendli is not responsible for the actions, messages, or conduct of users.
  • Mendli’s total liability is limited to the amount you paid us (typically $0).

15. Termination

We can suspend or terminate your access to Mendli at any time, with or without notice, if we believe you have violated these Terms or Community Guidelines, or for any other reason.

You may delete your account at any time through the app.


16. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the region where you reside, unless applicable laws require otherwise.


17. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify you of material changes inside the App. Continued use after changes means you accept the updated Terms.
